One hundred and fifty-three bodies have so far been recovered from the
scene of Sunday's crash of Dana Airline's flight 992 from Abuja to
Lagos.
This revelation was made by the National Emergency Management Agency just as the Senate said the Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Dr. Harold Demuren, ought to step aside pending the conclusion of investigation into the crash.
Head of NEMA's information team, Yushau Shuaib, said in a text message on Tuesday afternoon: "Recovered bodies from the scene of plane crash is 153 as at 2:30pm Nigerian time.
"Currencies, electronic gadgets, phones and identifications also recovered.
"The building is being pulled down gradually now."
The Senate on Tuesday recommended the grounding of all Dana airplanes and also the suspension of Demuren until investigation is concluded.
While demanding for a complete audit of the airlines in the country, the Senate said a thorough investigation must be carried out.
In a statement by its spokesman, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, the Senate said: "Senate demands nothing, but a holistic investigation of the remote and immediate causes of the plane crash.
"Senate would also insist that the probe this time should not be limited to Dana Airlines and their fleet, but all the airlines operating in Nigeria.
"We had thought that Nigeria had landed in the golden era of safe aviation industry, where all the standard codes that conform with international best practices were being complied with
